Planning a Disney vacation is exciting, but deciding which kind of Disney experience is right for your family can feel a little overwhelming. Both Disney Cruises and Disney Parks offer unforgettable character moments, world-class service, and that one-of-a-kind Disney magic. But they’re very different types of vacations and what works for one family might not be the best fit for another.
At Maps & Memories Travel Co., I help busy parents navigate this decision every day. Let’s walk through a few things to consider so you can confidently choose what fits your family right now.
WHAT KIND OF VACATION ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Before booking anything, take a moment to think about what you want to do and how you want your vacation to feel:
Do you want to go on rides and experience immersive, themed lands?
Do you want to relax by a pool while your kids play at the kids' club?
Do you want to visit multiple destinations in one trip?
Do you want a vacation that moves fast, or one that lets you slow down and reconnect?
Your answers will help steer you in the right direction.
CHOOSE DISNEY PARKS IF…
You want a high-energy, ride-filled adventure with the chance to immerse your family in iconic lands like Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, or Fantasyland.
Best for families who:
Love rides and themed shows
Don’t mind a lot of walking
Want to stay in one place and go all-in on Disney
Best for: Disney first-timers, thrill-seeking kids
Bonus: Seasonal events (like Halloween and Christmas!) add even more magic
CHOOSE A DISNEY CRUISE IF…
You’re dreaming of a more relaxing, all-inclusive-style vacation that still delivers the Disney sparkle, but with ocean breezes and built-in downtime.
Best for families who:
Prefer a slower pace with fewer logistics
Want meals, entertainment, and activities included
Like the idea of visiting multiple destinations, like Castaway Cay!
Are travelling with grandparents, or multi-gen groups
Best for: Families with a mix of ages, parents who need a break, or cruisers craving a magical twist
Bonus: Incredible kids’ clubs, splash zones, Broadway-style shows, and adult-only spaces
WHO’S IN YOUR TRAVEL PARTY?
Sometimes, the right decision comes down to who you’re travelling with:
Travelling with toddlers or preschoolers? A shorter cruise or Disneyland trip might feel more manageable than a full week at Disney World.
Bringing grandparents? Cruises offer elevators, smaller footprints, and less walking.
Got teens or multiple kids? Parks give older kids more freedom, while cruises let teens roam safely in age-specific clubs.
STILL NOT SURE? LET’S TALK IT THROUGH
Lots of families I work with end up doing both experiences over time. You really can’t go wrong. Both options create the kind of memories your kids will talk about for years.
